Terms of use for ISIMIP data during embargo period

The embargo period (maximum 1 year) is defined in our Workflow for contributions to ISIMIP.

Data under embargo is only available to ISIMIP modellers that participate in the respective simulation round with their own data submissions. Modellers are entirely free to use their own simulation data at any time and for any purpose, and may share their data with close collaborators or internally among their institutional staff who have agreed to abide by the terms of use here stated.

For using data under embargo: Please make sure that the data you use is up to date before submitting publications. To do so, please check our Data Changes & Caveats (for ISIMIP2 data please also check the data caveats archive).

By submitting data to or downloading data from the ISIMIP archive during embargo period, you agree to the following terms of use:

  1. I will hold no individual(s), organization(s), or group(s) responsible for any errors in the models or in their output data.

  2. I acknowledge the potential limitations of the data obtained from this archive and understand that although the model output has been subjected to a quality control procedure, unrecognized errors almost certainly remain. These may include (but are not necessarily limited to) errors in the models, shortcomings in the experiment designs, the conjectural quality of the forcing scenarios used to drive the models, and so on.

  3. I acknowledge that, during the embargo period, data in the ISIMIP workspace at DKRZ for a given simulation round is only available to the ISIMIP participants and associated scientists that contributed to that same simulation round themselves, and that sale of the data is strictly forbidden.

  4. I agree to restrict my use of ISIMIP data to its assigned license (find further details in the meta data of each data set and file, at Input Data & Bias Correction or at DOIs for ISIMIP data sets).

  5. All authors (including non-ISIMIP scientists) of any kind of publication that relys on input data and impact model output data from the ISIMIP workspace at DKRZ during its embargo period, agree to offer co-authorship to at least a representative of the corresponding modelling teams, the ISIMIP sector coordinators and the ISIMIP cross-sectoral science team for the sectors relevant to the paper (see Sectors and Contacts).

  6. I agree to appropriately credit the data providers, either by citing the DOIs relevant to the paper (see DOIs for ISIMIP data sets), or by an acknowledgment equivalent to the following:

"For their roles in producing, coordinating, and making available the ISIMIP input data and impact model output, we acknowledge the modelling groups, the ISIMIP sector coordinators and the ISIMIP cross-sectoral science team for the XX sector(s), listed in Table YY of this paper."

Where XX should list the relevant sectors and Table YY should list the models and modelling groups (names of modellers and their institutions) that provided the data used, as specified in the meta data of each data set and file or at Impact Model Settings & Characteristics.

  7. To aid participating modelling groups in understanding and improving their models, I will respond to reasonable requests from ISIMIP cross-sectoral science team for feedback about my ISIMIP research results (e.g. reporting model deficiencies).

  8. As soon as my ISIMIP based publication is released I will provide the associated reference to the ISIMIP cross-sectoral science team.
